The Blue and Green, Westward Ho!

*** Sadly The Blue and Green has now closed down. A real shame as it was a great venue. ***

Friends of ours from Yorkshire were travelling through on their way to Cornwall, so we thought we’d take advantage of the fabulous location of the relatively new Blue and Green, Westward Ho! to meet for lunch. We have eaten dinner there before and the food was extremely well cooked and presented (I had a tuna steak that was delicious!). Service is a little slow, but we were in no hurry, so it wasn’t a problem for us. We took our pre-teens and they were very accommodating to the foibles that only veg-phobic children can bring. The views from the first floor restaurant are stunning.

They are coeliac friendly (there’s a dedicated fryer for chips), although there was no specific menu for gluten free, but a key on the main menu – where ‘g’ stands for gluten free. I did question them on how things were prepared etc., which gave me a degree of confidence, but if it had been a busy service period I’m not sure whether the procedures they have in place are robust enough to ensure I was not made ill. Certainly the waitress had to ‘check with chef’ about the fries, which must not only be frustrating for the chef to have to answer questions during service, but also for the front of house staff having to keep running to the kitchen all the time.

Opening hours: Every day from 09:00 – Midnight.
Gluten free friendly: Good understanding of gluten free food and contamination.
Child friendly: They have a children’s menu and high chairs.
Disabled access: They have a lift to the first floor.
Dog friendly: Dogs are allowed on leads outside.
