Redwoods Inn, Uplowman

Once again we found ourselves close to the Somerset / Devon border (we spend a lot of time travelling up and down the Link Road!). As usual we thought we would combine our journey with a feed in a local hostelry. After a little bit of searching on line, we came across The Redwoods Inn, […]

The Royal George, Appledore

The Royal George, Appledore has only just re-opened after an extensive refurbishment. I hadn’t been into the pub before it closed, so can’t comment on the change the re-furb has brought. All I can say is that it looks amazing now! Some pictures of the pub are on the website. The interior has a nautical […]

Lilico’s, Barnstaple

Tapas in Barnstaple If you are looking for a good place to eat in central Barnstaple, right by the Clock Tower is Lilico’s. It is a Tapas bar, and although it has many seats, it has a warm, welcoming feel to it. When you enter Lilico’s you are greeted by a huge long bar, with […]

The Grampus Inn, Lee Bay

The Grampus Inn, Lee Bay, is situated in an Area of Natural Beauty on the North Devon Coastline. We first went to The Grampus a few years ago purely by chance. Friends were down on holiday in Ilfracombe and we wanted somewhere with good food where we could meet up and have a nice meal […]

The Sidmouth Arms, Upottery

In the centre of the pretty village of Upottery in the Blackdown Hills, is The Sidmouth Arms. It is a nice welcoming pub and fairly busy for such a remote location. As always I had rung ahead and checked that they could cater for me as a coeliac – and was very happy with the […]

The Anchor Inn, Exebridge

I was looking for another Devon pub to while away the hours whilst our son was at a South West Music School’s workshop http://www.swms.org.uk/, when I found The Anchor Inn, just outside of Exmoor, on the South East tip. I called them on the Friday afternoon and was immediately put at ease by the lady […]

The Mill on the Exe, Exeter

On a cold and windy February Sunday, we had to drop our son off to a South West Music School workshop http://www.swms.org.uk/. We had taken a beautiful, if slow (I had broken a rib two weeks before in a fall and was feeling very pitiful and couldn’t move very easily!) walk along the River Exe. […]

The Globe Inn, Sampford Peverell

The pretty little village of Sampford Peverell is very close to junction 27 of the M5. Whilst mooching about and killing time in Wellington, we decided to take the short hop down the M5 to try out The Globe Inn. When we arrived it was a sunny autumn day. The pub was very busy – […]

The Crealock Arms, Littleham

The Crealock Arms, is tucked away down a narrow lane and could easily be missed except for the sign on the road pointing you in the right direction. As you drive through into the generous car park, the views on the left of the hills are really lovely. Due to the time of year we […]

The Culm Valley Inn, Culmstock

The Culm Valley Inn, Culmstock, is definitely one to try. Not far from the M5, positioned between Wellington and Tiverton just off the A38, Culmstock is positioned in beautiful countryside just on the Devon/Somerset border. The food in the Culm Valley Inn is very good, hearty pub food, but with a bistro twist. There were quite a few gluten free choices.
