The Royal George, Appledore

The Royal George, Appledore has only just re-opened after an extensive refurbishment. I hadn’t been into the pub before it closed, so can’t comment on the change the re-furb has brought. All I can say is that it looks amazing now! Some pictures of the pub are on the website. The interior has a nautical […]

The Grampus Inn, Lee Bay

The Grampus Inn, Lee Bay, is situated in an Area of Natural Beauty on the North Devon Coastline. We first went to The Grampus a few years ago purely by chance. Friends were down on holiday in Ilfracombe and we wanted somewhere with good food where we could meet up and have a nice meal […]

The Crealock Arms, Littleham

The Crealock Arms, is tucked away down a narrow lane and could easily be missed except for the sign on the road pointing you in the right direction. As you drive through into the generous car park, the views on the left of the hills are really lovely. Due to the time of year we […]

The Black Horse Inn, Torrington

I had heard a lot of good things about the food in The Black Horse Inn, Torrington, so on a beautiful Bank Holiday Monday in August what better way to spend the day than a walk over Torrington Common and down by the river, followed by a big feed in The Black Horse Inn. The […]

Fremington Quay Cafe, Fremington

I’m a big fan of Fremington Quay Cafe, Fremington, (click here for its website) and judging by how busy it was last week, so is half of North Devon! Situated on the Tarka Trail between Bideford and Barnstaple, Fremington Quay is a must stop for locals and tourists alike. The views are stunning. There are […]

Pyne Arms, East Down

The Pyne Arms, East Down is a stunning old traditional pub with low ceilings, wooden beams and when we visited in October it had the obligatory roaring fire. Such a lovely homely and welcoming atmosphere. We ordered drinks and asked to see the menus when we arrived explaining that I would require a gluten free […]

Tea on the Green, Westward Ho!

Certainly one of the jewels in North Devon’s crown is The Tea on the Green, Westward Ho! – click the link for its website The Tea on the Green – and it is a must for all visitors. Locals queue outside waiting for them to open the doors in the morning. We’re real coffee snobs […]

The Blue and Green, Westward Ho!

*** Sadly The Blue and Green has now closed down. A real shame as it was a great venue. *** Friends of ours from Yorkshire were travelling through on their way to Cornwall, so we thought we’d take advantage of the fabulous location of the relatively new Blue and Green, Westward Ho! to meet for […]

The Pier House, Westward Ho!

The Pier House, Westward Ho! has to be in one of the most fabulous locations. Its outside space is designed to make the most of the sea views and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. As to the food…..The Pier House sent its, then, Head Chef, to our face-to-face training. As designed and expected the management continued with the training of its staff, so that the gluten free offering continues, despite staff changes.
